Tom Rhys Bishop

Welsh Crucible 2022
Tom obtained his PhD from the University of Liverpool before working as a research fellow at the University of Pretoria. He then returned to Liverpool as a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow before moving to Cardiff University as a lecturer. His research links thermal traits – the characteristics that allow animals to cope with different temperatures – with changes in populations and diversity patterns. By doing so, Tom seeks to understand why Life on Earth is where it is, and to predict where it might be going in an increasingly volatile 21st century. His research uses field, laboratory, and computational techniques and he is eager to learn about new ways of communicating and applying his work.
