Welsh Crucible 2026
Tom obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry at Bangor University and then went on to complete a PhD in Biological Sciences at Aberystwyth University. During this time, he developed expertise in the use of metabolomics to understand complex biological systems. For the past 10 years, he has been a research associate focusing on how metabolomics can be used to improve the measurement of dietary intake. Using these tools, his research explores how dietary intake affects the risks and progression of chronic disease, and the role that low burden, objective dietary assessment can play in preventative health initiatives within community settings. His main aim is to support the translation of complex analytical sciences into scalable, evidence based public health measures and precision nutrition.
