Penny is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing & Mathematics and Course Leader for Data Science at the University of South Wales. Her passion is applying Data Science techniques to solve real world problems, across disciplines from Health to Manufacturing. Following a BSc in Mathematics, Operational Research and Statistics she studied for a PhD, before becoming a Research Associate at Cardiff University. As a Research Associate in the Healthcare Modelling Unit she worked in collaboration with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board utilising a range of analytical approaches to improve utilisation and efficiency across several key services. She continues to work on projects across NHS Wales including recent work predicting bed numbers for the Critical Care Unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital. Penny is extremely keen to form interdisciplinary networks that seek to create innovative solutions to “Deliver a Digital Wales”.
