Kelly obtained her BSc degree in Sociology from Cardiff University in 2003 and went on to complete an MSc in Social Research Methods and PhD in Social Sciences also at Cardiff University in 2011. She then worked in the third sector as Research Lead for a domestic abuse charity, before taking up a lectureship in gender studies at Bath Spa University. She then took up a series of research-only contracts in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University for 7 years, before joining Swansea University as a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Criminology. She now works as a Research Fellow for Women’s Health Research Wales at Cardiff University. Her research explores the social determinants of women’s health, with particular interests in the physical and mental health consequences of domestic and sexual violence, the development and evaluation of complex public health interventions, gendered health inequalities, and trauma-informed and person-centred care.
