Karina obtained a BSc in Environmental Science and a PhD in Soil and Environmental Science at Bangor University. She then conducted a post-doctoral position on the NERC funded Uplands-N2O project, an interdisciplinary project quantifying emissions of the powerful greenhouse gas, nitrous oxide, from sheep grazing in the uplands. After this she went on to secure a Marie-Sklodowska Curie Actions Global Individual Fellowship, working on the Target-N2O project, between The University of Melbourne, Australia and Bangor University. Here Karina learnt new skills to quantify emissions of nitrous oxide from emission “hotspots” within intensive dairy farms and to trial methods of mitigation. Karina has now started a lectureship position at Bangor University where she will be focusing research on sustainable food production in a changing climate, nutrient cycling in agroecosystems, gaseous emissions from soil and assessing spatial and temporal variability in emissions, rhizosphere processes and plant-soil-microbe interactions.
