Jonathan obtained a 1st class BSc in Microbiology at Cardiff University, and stayed on to be awarded a PhD investigating antibiotic resistance and its relationship to bacterial pathogenicity in the School of Medicine. Jonathan now works as a Post-doctoral Research Associate, running a team dedicated to providing specialised microbiological support to pre-clinical drug discovery programmes for international pharmaceutical companies and the ENABLE consortium (European Gram-Negative Antibacterial Engine). In addition to his research, Jonathan holds a role as Associate Tutor/Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Jonathan is a passionate public communicator, having previously spoken at Public-Uni and the Universities Public Lecture series. He currently holds a Wellcome Trust Public Engagement Proof-of-Concept award, aiming to deliver an interactive microbiology laboratory experience in public spaces. He is also involved in Science in Health (SiH) which delivers a programme of activities to inspire the next generation of scientists in Welsh schools.
