Jin obtained his BEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University and completed his PhD at the same institution. He is now working as a lecturer in soft matter and microfluidic engineering at Cardiff University. His current research focuses on the design and fabrication of microfluidic devices, as well as constructing artificial cells, which are droplet-based materials designed to mimic the functionalities of living cells for real-world applications. For example, these systems can interact with brain organoids for disease diagnosis and can also be used to coat seeds to assist germination, improving crop outcomes. Jin is particularly interested in developing artificial cells as next-generation, fully liquid microrobots capable of performing precise tasks autonomously at the microscopic scale, advancing the field of biotechnology.
