Jennifer Maher is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Criminology, University of South Wales. She specialises in environmental crime and human-animal studies, interpersonal youth violence and victimisation, and where these issues intersect with other serious crimes. She has published widely on the trafficking of animals and animal abuse, her research supported by the United Nations, European Commission, European Parliament, Scottish Government, DEFRA, South Wales Police and the RSPCA. Jenny’s expertise is sought nationally and internationally, including recently completing the UN ICCWC toolkit review of the UK response to wildlife and forest crime and speaking at the British Embassy in Dublin on smuggling legitimate commodities between the islands of Ireland and Great Britain. She is committed to responding to the significant environmental harms which permeate the lives of human and nonhuman animals alike, through engaging in multidisciplinary and transnational research and utilising her social science expertise to foster solutions.
