Welsh Crucible 2024
Dr. Pattem is a multidisciplinary biophysical scientist whose work bridges physics, micro-to-molecular biology, and nanotechnology. He has pioneered advanced five-dimensional correlative microscopy (X, Y, Z imaging, force, and time) to uncover structure-function relationships in health and disease, earning international acclaim for his high-throughput nanomechanical analysis using bio-atomic force microscopy (BioAFM). Focused on understanding biophysical responses in complex biological processes, Dr. Pattem integrates micro and molecular biology, chemistry, polymer physics, nanometrology, and computational science. His goal is to foster a collaborative research culture that addresses intricate biological questions and translates findings into clinical applications, particularly benefiting patients with severe health conditions and underserved rural communities with limited healthcare access. Through his work, he aims to inspire a more inclusive and effective scientific community dedicated to improving global health outcomes.
