Bryonny is a social anthropologist specialising in rural and regional development in the United Kingdom and Central Europe. Originally from Aotearoa New Zealand, she joined Aberystwyth University in 2018, after previous appointments at the University of Melbourne. Her PhD research on post-industrialism in rural Northern England won the Australian Anthropological Society’s Best Thesis prize.

Bryonny currently contributes to two major research projects funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme – IMAJINE and ROBUST. In the latter, she works in partnership with the Welsh Local Government Association. She is also affiliated to WISERD, the Welsh Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods.
