Carly attended the University of Oxford and obtained a BA degree in Biological Sciences and a DPhil (PhD) in Clinical Medicine. She worked as a Research Assistant at the University’s Jenner Institute, where she performed immunogenicity testing of malaria vaccines undergoing clinical evaluation both in the UK and in Africa. She then completed postdoctoral immunology research on hepatitis C vaccines, before being recruited to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York as a Postdoctoral Immunologist to work on universal vaccines for influenza virus. Her current research as a Fellow develops influenza and SARS-CoV-2 vaccines with broad reactivity against multiple viral variants and strains. This involves interdisciplinary work between the Divisions of Cancer & Genetics and Infection & Immunity at Cardiff University. Carly is passionate about promoting and communicating accurate vaccine information to the public, whilst developing her career in translational immunology and vaccinology.
