Fernando is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Swansea University. He is originally from Quito, Ecuador; and before coming to the UK, he lived in the US completing his postgraduate studies. He was a President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Minnesota and obtained a PhD degree in Informatics at Indiana University as well as a MSc degree in Informatics from the University of Iowa. Fernando conducts Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research with stigmatized and vulnerable communities. He uses and applies novel participatory design methods to conduct research in person and remotely to co-design technology to help people manage their health and well-being.
