Ruth obtained her BA in History from the University of Leeds and went on to complete a Masters and PhD in Early Modern History at the University of Birmingham. She is currently a Lecturer in History at the University of South Wales where she also leads the Early Career Researcher Network.

Ruth is interested in the social, religious and cultural landscapes of early modern Germany and much of her work has focused on themes relating to education and toleration. She is currently writing a monograph on sacramental education in the sixteenth century as well as an article exploring social and religious dimensions to catastrophe response. Ruth is keen to explore how past pedagogical initiatives might address modern educational challenges and inform future policies.
