Berit is a Reader at Aberystwyth University’s Department of International Politics. Previously she held positions at Bremen University, Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg and in a research project at Nottingham University. Fellowships took her to Sweden, Germany and Canada. For her PhD thesis about international state-building in Bosnia and Herzegovina she received the German Studies Award 2009 for societally relevant research. She has also worked on armed conflicts, peacebuilding, and political charisma. Currently, Berit is interested in exploring how policy-makers and conflict experts make sense of violent conflicts and construct policy solutions. Her projects address a range of topics from transnational think tanks, to urban legends of intervention, and to theatrical performances taking place during politicians’ field visits. Believing in international and interdisciplinary collaborations Berit has headed a number of varied research groups and enjoys publicly discussing the difficult role of conflict experts in politics.
2017 Update: Berit was awarded the Welsh Crucible/Learned Society of Wales award for the best collaborative project 2011-2015 with Sofia Gameiro.
