Cardiff University
Welsh Crucible 2017
Wayne graduated from Cardiff University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Medical Engineering (first class honours) and in 2013 obtained his PhD, which was an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Schools of Engineering and Pharmacy investigating novel methods of delivering antibiotics and enhancing the osseointegration of orthopaedic bone cement. This technology was recently patented and led to several post-doctoral positions across Cardiff University, including the School of Dentistry, where Wayne is currently appointed as a Lecturer in Biomaterials. His research interests include: the design, development and testing of medical devices and biomaterials; adopting an inter-disciplinary approach to research through academic and industrial scientific collaborations; understanding and improving drug delivery and microbiological aspects of biomaterials; and understanding and enhancing the interactions between medical devices, tissues and cells. His ambition is to become a world leader in the field of biomaterials, by delivering high impact research and teaching excellence.
