Welsh Crucible 2024
Verity obtained her MSc in Biomechanics at The University of Manchester, and PhD in Evolutionary Biology at University College London. She is now working as a child health and social care researcher, developing and evaluating child safeguarding interventions. Her work has spanned interventions from burns prevention campaigns, to emergency department clinical prediction tools, to diverting children from organised crime, and schools based interventions with social workers and police officers.
Verity is motivated to explore how AI technologies such as machine learning and computer vision might support multi-agency decision making and safeguarding interventions for vulnerable children. In particular, she is interested in the application of machine learning to the interpretation of children’s injury images.
