Swansea University
Welsh Crucible 2017
Ruth obtained her MRes in biology at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, and went on to work for a commercial marine consultancy at the North Sea coast carrying out environmental impact assessments. She returned to academia in her mid-thirties and completed a PhD in marine biology at Swansea University. Since then she has been working as a post-doctoral researcher and project manager for international EU-projects. Her current research interest concerns examining ecological impacts and opportunities of marine renewable energy developments, and specifically issues linked to tidal lagoons. Ruth is keen to understand the environmental hurdles renewable energy developers face, research and close fundamental knowledge gaps, and create novel ways of discussing these topics with the wider public.
Ruth is currently a Senior Research Officer in the Department of Biosciences in Swansea University.
