Melitta specialises in cardiorespiratory fitness across the health, fitness and lifespan with a particular interest in paediatric populations. er recent work has focused on the development of non-pharmacological intervention strategies, such as inspiratory muscle training and high intensity interval training, for people with asthma and cystic fibrosis. In addition, she is interested in the role of pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with respiratory disease, especially Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, and the potential modifications that can be made to traditional strategies to optimise the outcome for the patients. This area of research was developed following Melitta’s post-doc at Swansea University looking at developing a model of cardiorespiratory control for an ambulatory artificial lung. Finally, following on from her PhD work at University of Exeter, Melitta continues to investigate the interaction between training and maturity on the bioenergetics responses of children and adolescents, with recent collaborations established with Hockey Wales, Welsh Rowing and Swansea City Football Club.

Melitta has been promoted to Associate Professor in the College of Engineering at Swansea University.
