Marcos earned his PhD in Telecommunications Engineering and PhD in Intelligent Systems and Numerical Applications in Engineering from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Data Science at Swansea University Medical School, where his interdisciplinary research applies machine learning and routinely collected data to advance the understanding of self-harm, suicide, and mental health. Marcos leads the Intelligence Workstream at the National Centre for Suicide Prevention and Self-Harm Research and co-leads the FAIR Curated Mental Health Data Core Activity within DATAMIND, the UK’s MRC-funded Hub for Mental Health Data Science. Passionate about the responsible use of artificial intelligence in mental health research and care, he is committed to developing and promoting ethical methodologies that translate data driven insights into meaningful clinical and public health impact.
