After a career as professional musician, Luca obtained his MSc degree in biology at the University of Pisa (Italy) and a PhD in Zoology at Cambridge University (UK), spending nearly two years as a visiting student at Imperial College London, Silwood Park. He went on to do postdocs in Canada (at the University of Guelph, Ontario) and France (at CNRS and INRA) and is now working as an Associate Professor in Ecology at the Department of Biosciences at Swansea University. His most current research is focussed on understanding and predicting biodiversity responses to environmental change, working at individual, community and macroecological scales and involves interdisciplinary working, especially with the maths department. Luca is extremely keen to communicate and apply novel scientific knowledge to improve the management of natural resources.

Luca has been promoted to Professor in the Department of Biosciences at Swansea University.
