Kang earned a BSc Honors degree in Optoelectronics in 2002 with the highest distinction, and subsequently earned a PhD in Laser Physics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. After two years of work at Swansea University, he spent thirteen years at the University of South Wales, where he currently holds the position of Research Fellow at the Wireless & Optoelectronics Research & Innovation Centre (WORIC). Kang has over 15 years of experience working in laser technology, optical design, nonlinear optics, fiber lasers, and UV laser lithography. He has an extensive publication and patent portfolio generated during his career working with interdisciplinary groups in biology, medicine, and environments worldwide. He is a peer reviewer for highly impactful journal publications in the optics field and for Innovate UK/EPSRC proposals. Kang is also a member of the Optical Society of America and MInstP.
