Dr Joe Williams is a Lecturer in Human Geography at Cardiff University. Joe has a BA degree and PhD in Geography from the University of Manchester, and an MSc degree in Environment and Development from the University of Edinburgh. Before moving to Cardiff, Joe held academic posts at Durham University and the University of Bristol. Joe’s interests cover the interdisciplinary fields of political ecology (which connects the study of environment, economy and social power) and development studies. His research is concerned with global environmental challenges, specifically the transition to unconventional water resources to address water stress. Joe recently began a five-year ERC/UKRI Starting Grant project which looks at how desalination and wastewater reuse are being used to increase water resilience in several African contexts.
