Welsh Crucible 2023
Ian worked as a mental health nurse in the NHS for seventeen years before moving full-time into academia and completing his PhD. He is now working as a lecturer and researcher at Bangor University, focussing on the experience and care of people living with dementia as a member of the Dementia Services Development Centre and the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research. His most current research concerns the experience of people navigating services to receive a rare dementia diagnosis alongside the economic cost for individuals and services. Ian is also leading a project to support person centred case note writing for people living with dementia in hospitals. He is determined that his research has an impact beyond the academic page and is keen to develop novel approaches to Appreciative Inquiry as a generative and transformative methodology for research.
