Gui has a degree in Veterinary Medicine (Santa Catarina State University), a master’s in applied zoology (State University of Santa Cruz), both obtained in Brazil. Since completing his PhD in 2019 (University of St Andrews, Scotland), Gui has been involved in international research collaborations focused on the impacts of climate change in Antarctica, including field expeditions to deploy satellite-linked tags on Antarctic seal species.

Currently a Lecturer in Marine Ecology in the Department of Life Sciences at Aberystwyth University, Gui’s research explores applied ecological questions – particularly the effectiveness of marine animal rehabilitation, its relationship to animal welfare, and its implications for population-level conservation. With a diverse academic background and research interests, Gui is passionate about bridging disciplinary boundaries and promoting integrated research and education that connects different fields and inspires the next generation of ecologists.
