Elaine obtained her BSc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry from Queen’s University, Belfast, and stayed to study for a PhD in cancer biology, which included a period spent at the University of Pennsylvania. She then moved to Cardiff University to commence post-doctoral research into signalling pathways underlying genetic diseases and cancer. She obtained a Fellowship from the Myrovlytis Trust to research Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome and is now a Research Fellow in the School of Medicine, undertaking basic biology and drug effectiveness studies in cancer models. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a STEM Ambassador. Elaine is keen to establish cross-disciplinary collaborations to develop better in vitro systems for assessing drug action in disease models. Such work will enhance the bench-to-bedside pipeline of drug development, thus delivering societal impact.
