Winnie is a marine biologist and Lecturer in Marine Pollution at the School of Ocean Science, Bangor University. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on quantifying the extent, behaviour, and ecological impacts of anthropogenic stressors, specifically microplastics, to assess environmental risk in a changing world and support science-based interventions.
She obtained a BSc in Zoology (Bangor University) and an MRes in Marine Biology (University of Plymouth), before completing her PhD (SAMS) researching the prevalence of microplastic pollution in the deep sea ecosystem. During postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Plymouth, she led research examining the global distribution of plastic pollution, and investigated the environmental degradation and impacts of biodegradable and bio-based plastics across terrestrial and marine environments.
Winnie is interested in learning how to create greater research impact in policy and public spheres. She is driven by a motivation to collaborate with different disciplines to deliver multi/transdisciplinary research with policy implications and scope for mitigating complex threats facing our planet.
