Dr Sarah Crews is an Associate Professor of Performance and Physical Culture at the University of South Wales, specialising in gender, cultural memory, and community wellbeing through boxing and performance. Her interdisciplinary research draws on performance studies, feminist theory, and ethnography to explore how boxing communities negotiate identity, care, and resilience. Her publications include the co‑authored monograph Boxing and Performance: Memetic Hauntings (2020), the co‑edited volume Boxing, Narrative, and Culture (2023), and the special edition Performance Research: On Blood. Sarah has published widely in leading journals, including work on ‘Habits of Belonging in and through Boxing’ and she has led major projects such as the National Heritage Lottery–funded Women’s Boxing Wales and a Leverhulme‑funded study on hidden labour and lost legacies in women’s boxing. Sarah is committed to research that amplifies underrepresented voices and strengthens cultural equity through accessible, community‑centred outputs that genuinely benefit the groups they are designed to support.
