John Harvey
Prifysgol Caerdydd
Crwsibl Cymru 2023
John graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc in Mathematical Science and, after graduate study in finance and a year working in legal services, he returned to pure mathematics at the University of Cambridge and the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. A postdoctoral position in Münster was followed by a family-related career break. A Daphne Jackson Fellowship brought him back (again) to academic research at Swansea University and he is now a Lecturer at Cardiff University where he holds a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship. He studies curvature: in pure mathematics, investigating the topological consequences of curvature; in mathematical physics, investigating the causal consequences; and in topological data analysis, the statistical challenges curvature creates in understanding the shape of data.
