Ben studied Natural Sciences at Durham University to obtain a broad but solid footing for becoming a secondary school science teacher. After teaching in Leeds and Cornwall he completed an MRes in Nanomaterials at Imperial College London.
He quickly became keen on research and completed a PhD at the National University of Ireland, Galway. During his PhD he worked on a combination of polymer chemistry research and Parkinson’s disease research. He continued along this path over the duration of his Sir Henry Wellcome fellowship with the aim of developing materials for future Parkinson’s therapies.
He has recently become a lecturer at Cardiff University where he is establishing his research group focused on the use of biomaterials in neuroscience research.
