Andrew Filmer is Senior Lecturer in Theatre and Performance at Aberystwyth University. His research examines the sites of encounter between performance, architecture, and infrastructure. Previous research has explored the backstage spaces of theatres, located and site-specific performance, and artists’ performative engagements with running. Andrew co-edited Performing Architectures: Projects, Practices, Pedagogies (2018) and curated the Performance Space Exhibition at the 2023 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space. He co-convened the Theatre & Architecture Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research between 2012 and 2020 and collaborated with National Theatre Wales on The Ever After Project (2020). Andrew’s current research explores the relationship between theatre and infrastructure, specifically the way theatre relies on infrastructural support, and functions as a vital form of social infrastructure.
