Dr Sophie Ward is a Research Fellow in the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University with expertise in ocean modelling and physical oceanography. Her research explores how marine systems respond to climate change, with a particular focus on long-term environmental change and blue carbon. Sophie works closely with policymakers, NGOs and industry to ensure research informs real-world decisions, and develops open-access tools and visualisations to make marine science more accessible. She is particularly interested in how AI can be applied responsibly within marine science and in developing new collaborations that connect environmental research with emerging technologies. Alongside her research, Sophie is passionate about nurturing an inclusive research culture and supporting the development of the next generation of researchers.
