Li is a Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Cardiff University and an Honorary Lecturer in Computer Science at University College London (UCL). He completed his PhD in structural engineering at ETH Zurich and subsequently served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Data Science Institute of Columbia University, funded by a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Early Postdoc.Mobility Fellowship. Before joining Cardiff, he was a Senior Research Fellow at UCL, where he co-led research tasks of an EU Horizon 2020 project on seismic resilience of critical infrastructure systems. His research explores how cities can better prepare for and recover from climate extremes by combining engineering insights with the latest advances in AI. Li is particularly interested in building collaborations across disciplines—from social sciences to hydroclimatic extremes—to help shape urban resilience strategies that are both technically robust and socially equitable in an era of growing global uncertainty.
