Dr Biao Zeng (preferred to call “Zeng”) is an experimental psycholinguist and applied neuroscientist whose research bridges cognitive science and emerging technologies. He earned his PhD in Psychology from the University of Bristol, following an MSc in Psychology and a BA in Linguistics from Peking University, China, one of Asia’s most prestigious universities. His primary research focuses on audiovisual speech perception and speech breathing—particularly using innovative tasks such as the helicopter task, which examines respiratory patterns and timing during natural speech production. Dr Zeng’s applied work explores the use of virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), eye-tracking, and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) to support education and rehabilitation for stroke survivors, older adults, and other vulnerable groups. His interdisciplinary interests also include political behaviour and the influence of socioeconomic status on children’s educational trajectories and long-term development. Dr Zeng is dedicated to research that is both theoretically rigorous and socially impactful.
