Anne Marie obtained her BA (Hons) degree in Sociology at Birmingham Polytechnic and then qualified as a registered nurse in Cardiff. Whilst nursing, she undertook her master’s degree in nursing at the College of Medicine before embarking on a PhD focusing on the experiences of patients undergoing day surgery. After completing her PGCEd, Anne Marie has continued to teach research methods both at undergraduate and postgraduate level and has remained research active throughout her career. Her PhD was the cornerstone for a number of publications on postoperative pain. Recently, her interest in pain has extended to pain assessment and management in people living with Dementia. Her other research interests include oral health in children with several qualitative studies evaluating the impact of the Designed to Smile programme on teachers and parents. More recently, the oral health needs of people seeking sanctuary has been another focus of research interest.
