A Canadian native Julie is a Senior Research Officer based in Swansea Trials Unit. She completed her PhD in 2014, exploring issues of demand for, and outcomes of, telephone-based health care by those living in areas of deprivation. Since then, she has been driven by prevention of ill health and equal access to healthcare, with a strong focus on skin and skin cancer prevention. Her current research is the recently completed Health and Care Research Wales funded Sunproofed, a mixed methods scoping study of sun safety in primary schools in Wales. She is now an Impact Fellow funded by HEFCW as part of the Research Wales Innovation Funding scheme at Swansea University. Julie volunteers with Skin Care Cymru, a charity providing a voice for those suffering with skin conditions in Wales. She is also a Trustee of the Pachyonychia Congenita (PC) Project Europe, a skin charity close to her heart.
