Gary is a Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Innovative Ageing at Swansea University. His research focuses on exploring the emotional and cognitive changes associated with ageing. The bulk of his work concerns developing interventions that utilize the positive effects of nostalgia to buffer against threat. Gary sits on the national executive committee of the British Society of Gerontology. He is a co-Director of the Dementia Health Integration Team within the Bristol Health Partners Academic Health Science Centre. He has published 36 peer-reviewed papers and four academic books. Gary would like to see equality in the provision of dementia care so that all sectors of society receive the assistance they need. It is his belief that genuinely person-centred care should be delivered across the board, where the support offered is sensitive to the cultural beliefs of everyone and provided in the appropriate language. Honest co-design is essential to build trust and respect so that research has value for individual communities and academia.
