Aberystwyth University
Welsh Crucible 2016
Rhys completed his BA, MA, and PhD at Aberystwyth, and was appointed Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol lecturer in Human Geography in 2011. He also completed his BA, MA, and PhD in the same institution. A social geographer, his work examines the experiences of religious groups and immigrants in rural areas, addressing questions of values, motivation, and participation. At present he is part of an interdisciplinary team researching how immigrants from central and eastern Europe contribute to civil society in Wales, as part of the ESRC-funded WISERD Civil Society. He is eager to develop interdisciplinary work on contemporary social issues of migration, social cohesion, and participation, and to examine the public communication and perception of these.
