Novella obtained her BSc & MSc degree in Ecological Biosciences at the University of Pisa (Italy). She then worked four years in research applied to wildlife management before moving on and complete a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technology at the University of Siena (Italy). After a career break for maternity leave, she specialised in data management and spatial databases and worked in a big data sharing ecology project involving 35 research centres across Europe. She now works as Research Assistant at Swansea University creating a new database system to manage diverse data types from active projects for SEACAMS, a group connecting research and industry in marine systems.
She is especially interested in finding ways to promote and support data management focussed on the specific needs of researchers, to facilitate data sharing, and to disseminate an open data culture.
