Giusy received her BSc and MSc degrees in Medical Biotechnology from Naples University (Italy) and went on to complete a PhD in Human Oncology at the Molecular Biotechnology Center in Turin (Italy).
She is currently a Research Associate at the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute (Cardiff University), working on the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for tumour patients. In particular, her research seeks to understand molecular mechanisms key in the regulation of normal tissue homeostasis and how cancer cells hijack these mechanisms in order to fuel their growth and aggressive behaviour.
Alongside her work in lab, she has developed a successful public engagement tool ‘Suppress The Mess’ – a board game designed for a non-specialist audience to demystify cancer – utilising a non-threatening approach to explain how tumours form and progress and how research can tackle this disease.
