Fiona Carroll

Fiona received a PhD degree in Computing from Edinburgh Napier University in 2008. She is currently a senior lecturer with the School of Technologies, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Wales. Her research focuses on the fast-changing relations between humans and digital technologies and shows a substantial contribution to scholarship in the fields of Human Computer Interaction.
Her current work explores the role of the aesthetic in the design and development of cyber security visualisations, online learning systems and in problem solving. Fiona is especially interested in ethically aligned design and how we might design for the immediate informed ‘sense’ that people need to maintain control over their wellbeing whilst online.
Fiona is passionate about women in tech, she has mentored women in STEM, set up a ‘girls in computing’ interest group and has led on several Athena Swan Departmental applications.
